Failure Analysis of Hydraulic Systems

Breakdown Maintenance

The root cause of the breakdown that occurred in the hydraulic systems is the most serious and troublesome work for a company. Technicians or maintenance team must have a very good knowledge and skills about this matter.

The hydraulic system is a closed circuit so that makes it hard to find any fault.

Approaching troubleshooting..

The system is noisy

  1. The pump is fault
  2. The oil level in the tank of the pump is low
  3. There are air bubbles in the system
  4. Consists of evaporating in the oil.

  5. Safety valve is malfunction

  6. Check the connection assembly pump and electric motor

  7. Spring of the check valve is broken

  8. Excessive number of elbows in the pipe line

  9. The diameter of the suction pipe is small

  10. Suction line filter is clogged

The hydraulic circuit pressure is low

  1. The hydrolic pump is fault
  2. The setting of the pressure reducing valve is low

  3. There is a leak in the hydraulic circuit

  4. Leaking in the cylinder seal

The hydraulic circuit pressure is high

  1. The fluid is dirty due to the return line filter contamination
  2. The pressure control valve is defective or not adjusted

  3. There are air bubbles in the system

  4. Abnormal main bearing clearance

Low Flow Circuit

  1. Pressure setting of the safety valve is too low
  2. Decreased lub oil on moving surfaces

  3. Cylinder or electric motor is faulty

  4. The oil viscosity is high

  5. The fluid level is low

  6. The setting of the flow control valve is insufficient

  7. The whole of the fluid returning to the tank through the safety valve

  8. Reverse the direction of rotation of the electric motor

  9. The hydraulic pump is fault

  10. RPM of the pump is insufficient

High Flow Circuit

  1. The pressure control valve is defective or pressure setting is too high
  2. The setting of the flow control valve is too high

  3. RPM of the electrical motor of the pump is not suitable

  4. Power of the hydraulic pump is more than enough

Faults in Directional Control Valves

  1. The contact surface of the valve is worn out
  2. The return spring in the valve is broken

  3. There is deposit or sludge in the valve

  4. The connections to the solenoid of the valve is incorrect

  5. The valve is not set

Fluid The in The Circuit is Overheating Quickly

  1. There are air bubbles in the fluid
  2. Hydraulic circuit return line may be clogged

  3. There is clearance in the pump

  4. Fluid is contaminated

  5. Excessive pressure drop

  6. The cooling system is out of circuit

  7. Excessive fluid circulation

  8. The fluidity of the fluid is not available
